Bloomberg New Energy Finance names top clean energy investors
2010 League Tables Reveal Largest Investors in Lower‐Carbon Economy
London, March 2—Bloomberg New Energy Finance has announced the winners of its 2010 League Tables, which reveal the leading investors and financial service providers in clean energy and the carbon markets. The awards were presented at a special reception this evening at Bloomberg’s London headquarters.
The 2010 Clean Energy League Tables are based on results from the world’s leading database of financial transactions in clean energy and carbon markets. Full year figures show that new investment worldwide during 2010 totaled $243 billion, a rise of 30% from 2009 and surpassing all previous levels since records began in 2004. The Bloomberg New Energy Finance Energy League Tables have been an essential guide to activity in the sector for six years. They constitute the only quantitative and comprehensive benchmark for identifying the most active and innovative clean energy investors, project financiers, investment banks, funds, carbon off‐takers and law firms.
This year, Bloomberg New Energy Finance is honoring 13 organizations as League Table Award winners, across asset classes ranging from venture capital and private equity, to carbon markets and clean energy funds.
Michael Liebreich, chief executive of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, said: “Total worldwide new investment in clean energy surged last year by over $50bn into new record territory. At $243 billion it was nearly five times higher than when we first handed out the Bloomberg New Energy Finance League Table Awards, six years ago. As the number and scale of deals return to strong growth after a difficult couple of years, we are seeing some of the original winners retaining their position among the top players in the space, but they are being joined each year by strong new mainstream players. This all bodes well for the future capital needs of the sector.”
